Recently I was captivated by our local venders selling fruit on the side walks on many of our streets down town. Some have had their stalls for many years with a variety of both foreign produce and local fruit and vegetables. This enchanting blend of colours inspired me to create my latest piece of one of these women selling fruit on the pavement. Her stand is captivating as brightly coloured grapes hang in baskets above a table packed with oranges and red and yellow apples. Scattered around the stand are old wooden barrels and crates of fruit amidst the backdrop of an old Port of Spain building.

I have also worked on the flowering Immortelles that grow to great heights in our forested areas and completed a piece with them all in bloom calling it The Dance of the Immortelles. I am right now working on another called under The Flamboyant - two of these huge flowering trees in full bloom are spread over the entire painting with two men sitting under one of them in conversation. The colours are purples, light yellows, bright greens and of course the red flaming colours of the blooms.

All the work is going to be framed in clean, simple wooden frames which helps bring to life the pieces as they are all nature scenes and casual day to day living. To date i have 33 paintings ready for my Trinidad 2007 collection, and it will be a great joy to see them all framed and up on the walls at the gallery.

The gallery will be offering high quality prints on demand which can be smaller or larger than the originals and will be available from the gallery itself. I decided not to have prints made from before as I really do not want the market swamped with reproductions with the exception of a few select prints.

Hope to see your comments as you journey with me here on my website and in my journal. New work will always be going up and I will be free to do commissions as of October. I have four already to work on and I am taking orders so do get in touch with me. I am a firm believer that art should be affordable so my prices will remain in a modest range - email me at artbyclayton.com@gmail.com if you are interested in purchasing my work.
